BBC - UK Games Research
In March last year, wecommissioned some UK-centric research to look at UK residents and theirgaming habits. The research was conducted during June and July 2005,then amalgamated and analysed in September 2005. A public-facing copyof the results was created in December 2005, and you can find a copy here (PDF, 1.3 mb).
Why games research?
In the context of audience research and new media, we wanted to knowhow significant gaming is in the UK, and who's playing. Much of thepublicly available research out there is US or Euro centric, and oftenfocuses on self-identified 'gamers'. We wanted to find out how manypeople in the UK are playing games, even simple games such as Hearts onthe PC, or games on mobile phones. Other areas of interest to us: howmuch people value gaming. When and where gaming is most popular. Whyand when games might be chosen over other forms of interactive orlinear media.
